Solange + Doug

So technically this is a family shoot not an engagement.  Solange second-shoots with me and like all good photographers, it’s always good to get on the other side of the lens every now and then!  I’ve known Solange now for two years, so it was great to finally get meet Doug!

Photographing weddings with Solange is always fun, she is the package deal!  She is not only a bright and super-talented photographer, but on top of that she has a great personality which makes couples and their guests love her!   Oh, and did I mention that she is a highly skill ninja?  Essential when photographing wedding ceremonies!

LeGere Family

This shoot was a lot of fun however I was a little nervous going in; you see Barbara (the mom) is an accomplished photographer.  An accomplished kid photographer.  An accomplished kid photographer that also happens to second shoot weddings with me and is our new associate photographer!  Nothing like your work being dissected by a pro.

Barbara had this great idea to shoot at Kiddy Acres, what better place to shoot a family with young kids?  When I pulled up, across a very busy road was this train and a very groovy and graffitied box-car.  I was thinking there is NO WAY parents would drag their young children through tall grass down and then back up a ravine to sit in a dirty box car that had the potential to start moving at any minute.

I was wrong.

Oh and glad I asked because I almost didn’t!

My Poor Mistreated Children

They say preacher’s kids have it tougher than regular kids growing up, but what about the children of a photographer? Sure they look happy in all their pictures, but I wonder if deep-down inside they are screaming, “Dad put down the camera and just let us go play!”
For the record, I rarely ever pose my (or other people’s) kids. I like to capture them in action and let their true personalities shine through; BUT these are bluebonnets for crying out loud! I can’t have my kids just romping around in a field of bluebonnets; 1) I understand it’s a life term in prison for destroying the coveted state treasure 2) we were WAY out in the country (Mason, TX) and God only knows what was lurking 10 feet in the middle of that patch.

Laser focus here on the grandmother, just off to the right of the camera if you couldn’t tell.

Cole is usually pretty cooperative when I whip out the camera, lights and reflectors… not this day.

Caleb on the other hand is the one that usually takes a bit of coaxing if you’re after a certain look but when we shot this he was on! I think it was three frames and done (and they were all good images!).

Emma Grace was in the zone, EVERYTHING she did was cute… she was unstoppable.

Notice the state treasure in here right hand? Fortunately she’s a minor and I’m hoping the local authorities will take it easy on her.

Drury Lane Studios

This goes to show the power of M&M’s. For my long time readers you all will recognize my pride and joy under their baking attire, Cole, Emma Grace and Caleb. I’ve been wanting to do this shoot for about six months now in an industrial kitchen but one never presented itself so we shot it in our breakfast nook!

Caleb was nice enough to help out with a quick light test.
